Willy’s Restaurant and Catering

Dining at Willy’s is a rich and unique experience. Chef Chris Willy, his partner and
wife Karri, and their crew do an extraordinary job of serving high class dishes in
an atmosphere that is elegant and inviting. When they opened Willy’s last summer,
it was our job to update their web presence. We felt they needed a site embodying
the same rich and inviting feel as the restaurant itself. The home page displays a
simple slideshow to greet visitors with snippets of Willy’s, while the informational
body of the site is surrounded by a warm background of evening diners.

Janelle Tavormina, Artist

Inspired by nature, Janelle’s work captures the calm, serene zen of the wind
blowing through branches or waves washing up on a beach. Her artistic style
is loose and spontaneous. We felt it was right for her site to use the texture
of one of her paintings as the background, and also to use a handwriting-style
font (Christopher Hand). A translucent purple screen is a soft backdrop to her
work’s gentle lines and flowing forms. We also chose an unconventional, scattered
arrangement of the artwork thumbnails in lieu of a structured column or grid,
echoing the beautiful randomness found in nature.

Sales Folder Design
WPTZ-TV Plattsburgh-Burlington

This station needed a fresh new statement as well as a new look for its sales folders. Collaboration with the client led to a solution of combining the magic of emerging digital capabilities with the natural beauty of the Champlain Valley. This illustration was also adapted as an ad in the Burlington Jazz Festival program guide, 2007.

MicroSeal Q Brochure

MicroSeal has been used to protect fabrics from sun fade and staining in the aerospace and airline industry for over 30 years. It's now becoming available to the quilting and craft industries as MicroSeal Q. We chose the color scheme to match the established MicroSeal logo. We included bright images of textiles as well as a textured fabric background behind the text. We also composed the photograph used on the front panel.

Informational Booklet
AngioDynamics, Inc.

AngioDynamics’ Morpheus® CT PICC is a catheter designed for healthcare practitioners to both administer medications and perform CT imaging, avoiding the need for a second access site. We presented this gymnast concept to illustrate the strength and flexibility of the product’s material properties as well as its versatility. The gymnast theme is carried out in product brochures and the patient information booklet pictured here. Concept and imagery has been used continually in the product’s marketing materials since 2004.

Gift Certificate
Willy’s Restaurant and Catering

Our client wanted to create a gift certificate that was beautiful and sophisticated, in an Old World style. We found and drew decorative elements for the border, specified gold foil, and chose American Scribe for the font. The certificates were printed on heavy cream-colored stock and numbered to prevent counterfeiting. Printing was done by Cyan Print of Hemmingford, Quebec.

Guide Service Brochure
The Village Inn of East Burke

The Village Inn is a place where guests can go and relax, free from the usual obligations. You do what you want to do, when you feel like doing it. At George’s request, we aimed to express this free-flow in the Guide Service brochure by blending the photos, colors, and textures that emerge from a backwoods Vermont experience. No hard edges, no rigid structure.

Logo
The New Land Trust

This non-profit organization needed a logo that reflected its environmentally conscious values as well as draw some attention to the fact that it’s a great place to cross-country ski. The NLT sits at the foot of Lyon Mtn, and we thought it fitting to make it a dominant part of the design. Rolling ski tracks and a decorative vine frame the mountain, all in a hand-drawn style.

Logo
ProTube Extrusion, Inc.

The goal was to create a dynamic logo for this medical device tubing extrusion company. Simple black and white geometric shapes and soft upper/lower-case lettering created the look we needed. The word “extrusion” begged to be stretched out further along the bottom of the block, to further express the extrusion process. We liked what we saw, and so did our client.

Sign Design
Willy’s Restaurant and Catering

Chef Chris Willy asked us to design a sign that was unique. He wanted it to be something other than a regular rectangle or circle. In keeping with the restaurant’s Old World yet contemporary aesthetic, we extended a curling scroll from the bottom of the main sign area for extra oomf, and flanked “Willy’s” with decorative gold curls.

Photo Restoration

What do you do when your dog gets ahold of your cherished photograph?! What came to Hyland as a very tattered and scratched portrait was restored to a clean image of this cute little girl - and just in time for Christmas 2010. Click on her picture to see the before & after image.
